Experiencing the Future of Work with Homelike: Audrey’s Remote Work Adventure in Italy

As we navigate the post-pandemic world, the future of work has been at the forefront of everyone’s minds. Traditional workplaces are being replaced with more flexible arrangements, and the concept of “office” has shifted dramatically. At Homelike, we’re embracing this change wholeheartedly and pioneering an approach to the future of work that’s centered on trust and flexibility.

In the spirit of this new age, we give our employees the unique opportunity to work from home or even outside their country of employment for two months each year. This groundbreaking move towards flexibility has significantly shaped the work experiences of many of our team members.

To get a sense of the impact our “future of work” concept is having, we invite you to delve into the personal journey of one of our employees, Audrey Roumage, who recently took advantage of Homelike’s remote work benefit.

A Month in Rome: My Homelike Remote Work Adventure

As spring began to bloom in March 2023, I took the bold decision to exercise Homelike’s remote work benefit and set my sights on the historic city of Rome, Italy. The weather was turning wonderfully pleasant, the days were getting longer, and it was the perfect time to explore Rome before the height of the tourist season.

Despite being in a different country, my work schedule remained pretty much the same, albeit interspersed with well-deserved out-of-office days. These breaks allowed me to truly immerse myself in Rome, joining guided tours and visiting local museums. My usual work breaks were transformed into leisurely strolls through Rome’s charming streets – the perfect antidote to workday stress.

Perhaps one of the most memorable aspects of my time in Rome was the chance to work outside, bathed in the warm Italian sun and with a cup of freshly brewed local coffee by my side. This change of scenery not only refreshed my mind but also allowed me to soak up the local culture, fostering new friendships with the Romans I met along the way. Among the most unforgettable moments was a serendipitous encounter with the Pope himself.

Looking back, I can confidently say, “The overall adventure was great.” However, the month seemed to fly by in a blink, making me think that I should perhaps take advantage of two consecutive months of remote work next year.

Experiencing life in Rome was significantly different and more enriching than any short-term visit. I’ve even been considering a second remote work stint in Rome, especially to explore the smaller towns around the city which I didn’t get a chance to visit the first time.

For anyone contemplating their own Roman remote work experience, I’d wholeheartedly recommend long walks along the Tiber, seeking out the hidden gem restaurants nestled within narrow cobblestone streets, immersing oneself in the city’s myriad museums, and of course, experiencing the buzzing nightlife of the Trastevere Quarter.

Embracing the Future of Work

Audrey’s remote work adventure underscores the transformative power of our future of work concept. Our vision at Homelike is to provide our employees with not just a job, but a lifetime experience that broadens their horizons and allows them to enjoy the world beyond their traditional workspace.

As we continue to foster a work environment that values trust and flexibility, we’re excited to see where our team members will choose to explore next while maintaining their productivity and drive. After all, who wouldn’t relish the idea of exchanging a conventional office setup for a temporary workspace under the Italian sun, or any other part of the world they fancy?
